Reeling in Online Education Sources : Learning Sites for Kids

It’s nearly impossible to go online these days and not be inundated by online education resources. There are some great and some questionable resources for online education to sift through. How to decide?

It is a great and growing trend to utilize any number of remote education resources for anything from a degree, to educational games for kids, gaining further training in your field, or learning something new simply for the love of learning.

There are a range of sites that range from free to subscription services and those that will take you all the way to a degree. Resources abound for people of all walks of life and every age. Today’s focus is on a few standout resources for kids.

The Learning Page is a great resource for teachers creating curriculums for their students. They link up to a great project that brings sites like Reading a-z.com to life, just one of six sites that are part of the Learning A-Z suite.

You might be surprised to find that the New York Times offers some great materials and lesson plans for topics of all ilk, from fine arts to geography. ThinkQuest.com is a project by the Oracle foundation that gives kids an opportunity to create projects and to compete with other kids across the nation.

And if you’re just looking for a little educational fun, funbrain.com has a wide range games that are so fun, kids will scarcely know they are learning. The public broadcasting system also has a great site dedicated to kids education with content that is based on some of their popular programming.

I’ll return next week with a round up of adult educational resources that range from arts & design lecture series to subscription services dedicated to giving you an edge in the technological field.
